You can drop off your entry fee and pictures Mon-Fri 9:00 am - 6:00 pm DALLAS — The health care worker who tested positive for Ebola has a dog, but the mayor of Dallas says unlike in a recent Spanish case, the dog will be kept safe for eventual reunion with its owner.
Mayor Mike Rawlings told USA TODAY that the dog remained in the health care worker's apartment when she was hospitalized and will soon be sent to a new location to await its owner's recovery. There are no plans to euthanize the dog, he said. "This was a new twist," Rawlings said. "The dog's very important to the patient and we want it to be safe." There were no immediate details on the name or type of dog. (The dog's sign translates as: Excalibur, Never Forget, Never Forgive) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there have been no reports of pet dogs or cats becoming sick with Ebola or passing the disease on to other animals or people in the U.S. They said they are working with the American Veterinary Medical Association to develop a plan for the pet population in the United States. Ebola has been detected in monkeys, bats, pigs, horses and dogs. But there is a big difference between carrying the virus and transmitting it. It's more complicated than that, though, because animals don't show the symptoms."While, yes, they can contract the virus — whether they carry the virus and can spread it to animals or other people is still unclear," said Dr. Kristen Olsen, an internal medicine specialist at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists. What we do know; animals don't show symptoms and it is unclear whether they can spread it or not. Dogs can carry the virus. Experts just don't know that much about it yet. Get those costumes ready! Look here for more details; photos of prizes, how to enter and of course the guidelines. Show off your pups and help a great cause! The Lincoln County Pet Emergency Fund. Click on the Halloween Costume Contest link at the top of the page for more details! This week we will be meeting at the end of the South Jetty in Newport. This time we will meet at the South Jetty and then take the trail over and back. There seemed to be plenty of parking places last time we were there. We'll meet by the trail. Look for our charcoal mini van with the paw print on the back.
Kaylee won 1st prize for Best Dressed and 2nd prize for the Peanut Butter Lick. That's right, my little girl came in 2nd against some dogs with really big tongues! My Chihuahua, Dachshund mix (aka a Chi-weenie) loves the sun. So we decided to build her a playpen on the front porch. She loves it! She's safe and can sunbath as long as she wants!
This week we will be meeting in The Adobe's parking lot in Yachats and walk the trail along the coast (as far as we are able!) Saturday September 20th at 10am. Hope to see you there!
I like this idea. Luckily Kaylee doesn't need pills at the moment (knock on wood), but it looks like a great idea.
This week we will be meeting at the Agate Beach Parking lot and hiking over to Big Creek. We'll meet in the big parking lot, NOT the beach side. I've never taken this hike, but have always wanted to. I just didn't want to go alone! Have any of you walked it yet? If your dog is new or nervous or has any behavior problems, please tie a Yellow bow on your leash. I will bring some if you need one. Each week we will award one prize for one of the dogs and its human. A drawing will be held to see which question will decide who the winner is. For example, it could be for the smallest dog, or the oldest dog, or who drove the furthest, or which human has the most pets, etc... I'm looking forward to seeing you all there! I noticed something on my Kaylee's abdomen. I had just assumed it was the scar from being spayed. It's green, but when I was looking at in good light, it looks like an S made with small dots. Is that normal for a scar, or what do you think it is?
Today's walk in Yachats was extra special thanks to Rhiannon Pearson! She had bottles of water and bags of treats for each of us. The Adobe Resort has a dog friendly wing at the hotel. Great place to stay with your dog of any size. We plan on doing this walk again. It's a beautiful trail and we were able to let the dogs run on the beach. Wonderful day with wonderful company! Thank you for this wonderful poster Rhiannon Pearson and The Adobe Resort, Yachats, OR
My cousin and I have made The Adobe a tradition. We take our Mom's to the Mother's Day brunch every year. The view is amazing and the food is yummy! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Adobe-Resort/168352269859437 |
